Barn Weddings in Oregon

(Photo courtesy of One Love Photo)

I really would love it if a bride would come to me wanting a barn wedding, and needing help with all of the details and decor (details and decor are my favorite aspects of wedding planning btw). Being that much of Oregon is farm country you'd think that we'd have barn venues galore, but I have yet to find one that really rivals some of the great barn venues across the US that you see in blogs everyday.

Here are a few images of barn weddings I've adored:

I did hunt around to find a few local barn venues, two of which I hadn't heard of before. Green Villa Barn is a very up-to-date barn in Independence, Oregon (where I actually did Casey & Shanna's wedding if you remember) with a beautiful garden as well, but for me it doesn't give that really rustic feel I crave. Two barn venues which I had not heard of prior, but found today, are Beazell Education Center in Philomath and Blue Rooster B&B barn outside of Eugene. Both appear to be very rustic, with Beazell located in a state park.

If you are planning a budget wedding, I always recommend state park venues because you don't seem to be taken by large fees and there's usually few restrictions or guidelines to follow/abide by including which caterers to use, etc. Beazell for instance will cost you $675 for all day use on a Fri-Sun with a $300 refundable deposit. This is so small compared to most venues who also add on food and beverage minimums. Here you could make your own food on site if you really wanted.

I also personally love barn weddings because they work really well for long rectangular table seating and family style dining. This provides for a very intimate and close setting with those people who mean the most to you. Not to mention, add in christmas lights, lanterns or other hanging elements from the exposed beams and you can definitely make the view overhead magical. I doubt places like this will care if you put a nail in a beam, so long as you remove it afterward. Not to mention barn venues typicall have large outdoor spaces for ceremonies under a large oak or those hay couches I showed in a previous post.

If you know of other Oregon barn venues to list here, or want to make a comment on barn weddings/decor in general I'd love to have you comment below!

Happy Planning!
~A

PS: If you have a great old barn on your large outdoor property, I really recommend you turn it into an event venue and I'd be more than happy to work with you in doing so. I think Oregon needs more venues like this!

  1. Hi Amber!

I really enjoy your blog :) I think you do an excellent job of covering a variety of topics within the wedding business. I also appreciate your simple and unique style- very fun!

I happened to remember this post when I was just looking around on FB. I was checking out this girl's blog listed on her profile and it mentioned where she and her husband got married this past October. They got married in the Stein-Boozer Barn in Willsonville. I wasn't sure if you've heard of it but thought I'd at least mention in it in case you want to check it out.

    Here's the website: http://www.ci.wilsonville.or.us/index.aspx?page=685

  3. Amber,

I was frantically searching for barns in Oregon for a wedding reception and found your website so helpful! I was wondering where the barns are that you have posted on your blog?

  4. The first is in Eugene, Oregon and the second is in Philomath, Oregon. Both are south of Salem. There are links to each for more information in the post. Glad I could help.

  5. Could you share the sources for the ideal barn wedding photos? I'd like to see where those barns are, and who decorated them!

    Thanks!

  6. I've now listed where I got the photos, for those where I actually have it written down. I put up this post quite awhile ago, so I don't remember where exactly I found them all. But chances are that if you google images "Barn Weddings" you'll probably find the source of many of them.

  7. Hello everyone...Just doing some research and reading on barn weddings. Findings some very interesting material on the matter. See my father is 82 and no longer is capable of farming so here sits this 64 X 96 gigantic barn on our farm......I began to daydream as I often do and it comes to me---create a unique atmosphere for special gatherings especially weddings catering of course towards the bride since it is her day :) Anyway, I am in the beginning stages of creating a business plan and am very excited at the possibilities of this venture. Here in South Dakota, we do not have a huge population base like many states that already have barns catering to weddings. But I figure that if you create it, they will come!!!

  8. I am planning to have my ceremony on the coast, up north. I'd like to stay in the Cannon Beach/ Seaside area. The plan is to have the ceremony on the beach front, then relocate to another venue. I would LOVE to have that reception spot be an old rustic barn. I've been looking around, but thought you may have an idea or know of a nice place in that area...?

  9. Anonymous! After about an hour of searching online I found your perfect spot. It's a barn located in Gearhart, which is right between Seaside and Cannon Beach and it is now being used for events. Go to www.neocoxiecreek.org for more information. It's called the Barn at Neocoxie Creek. The barn is very vintage and decorated at the top with lots of Christmas lights. I hope you like it! I'm glad my blog and I could help.

  10. I can't get that website to work and aren't having any luck searching under that name. Help!

  11. My apologies, it's Neacoxie Creek Barn Events Center. I accidentally put an "o" instead of an "a". The website should read www.neacoxiecreek.org.

  12. What a fantastic barn. I love all things barn.

  13. I own the Neacoxie Creek barn in Gearhart. I am so glad your website is featuring barns because they are such a wonderful part of our history, they feel authentic and familiar. With an acre of gardens surround the large 1890 barn you can have a relaxing, and memorable day that you'll always remember. Neacoxiecreek.org is our address. We are next to this beautiful tidal creek and three blocks from the wonderful Gearhart beach. You can have a beach and a barn wedding in one! Shannon

  14. Amber,

I have been to that fantastic old barn in Gearhart and it is wonderful. And I understand that the owner has made numerous improvements to the property to enhance the experience and to accomodate the most delightful events. I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. Wish I had a photo I could include... you would love it.

  15. I have also been to the barn in Gearhart. It is very cool! Improvements are ongoing and the owner has such a sense of style yet keeps the rustic beauty of the barn. Gearhart is a lovely village and I hope people will seek this venue out for their special occaisions.
Hopefully pictures will be coming to you soon of Neacoxie Creek event center.

  16. Hi this is great! I'm looking for a barn near Salem, Oregon. I like the rustic look but it has to fit 200 people. It is going to be in May so it needs to be in the barn. What do you think? Any places near Salem?

  17. btw my name is Morgan but I can't figure out how to leave my name

  18. Green Villa Barn is a great barn right outside of Salem in Independence (about 5 mins from downtown). I actually planned a wedding out there once. It's been modified on the inside but still has the vintage look on the outside. Definitely check it out!

  19. Love your blog. I am getting married the end of August and we are looking for a rustic barn wedding location. We live around Hillsboro. We are thinking around 150 guests and want to keep a low budget. Any suggestions for a location? Thanks--Lyndsay.
    ReplyDelete
  20. Lyndsay, have you thought about the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse owned and operated by McMenamins? It's in the Hillsboro area and has a great barn and orchard, perfect for weddings and receptions. Plus McMenamins has great food and alcohol!
    ReplyDelete
  21. Well my fiance's brother had his wedding at a McMenamin's so we were hoping to do something different. It doesn't have to be in the area necessarily just somewhere rustic looking.

  22. Hi Amber! You have been so helpful for everybody here. I've been searching for hours all day! I'm looking for a barn anywhere in Damascus, Boring, Sandy, or Clackamas area. I drive past barns out here all the time, but I believe they are residential. Do you know if any can be used for events?
    ReplyDelete
  23. Have you looked into all of the barns mentioned in this blog post and subsequent comments already? These are all of the ones I know of that are somewhat local. I find that my best search tool for venues is google. Perhaps you could google "barn weddings" and "Oregon" and see what comes up. If searching in web doesn't work, try images as well. Sometimes you can get additional results.

  24. There is a bed & breakfast in Scappoose that has an old dairy barn that is used for events, mainly weddings. There website is www.scappoosecreekinn.com

  25. Hi Lyndsay:
If you don't mind serving wine-You might want to check here-no barn for use, but one for great photo opportunities. It's fantastic! There's a tent if you want to/need to rent it. We had a gorgeous day for my daughter's late August 2009 wedding! http://www.helvetiawinery.com/events.php
    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous: I don't know if any of those barns are non-residential (I'm not aware of any that are event sites in that area), but if you feel comfortable enough, you may be able to knock on the door of any of the homes connected to them and see if they'd be willing to rent out their barn for an event. Chances are that if it's sitting empty they might be willing to let you use it, if you indicate the fee you'd be willing to pay them.

  32. Beautiful pictures! I love the color contrast and lighting inside the barn along with the elegant decorations using centerpieces on the tables.

  33. We are interested in using Blue Rooster B&B for our wedding but don't know how spendy they are. We are kind of tight on budget and if we need to rent a lot on top of a large location fee we might need to look somewhere else. I really want a barn wedding/reception because I am having an elegant fall and Halloween blended theme. I think a barn would be perfect for that!

  34. I wanted a barn wedding for my wedding so bad but could not find one in the portland area....so my dream and goal is to have my own wedding venue (a barn of course.) Once I find property and all that I will let you know because they make beautiful wedding spots!!

  35. I contacted Blue Rooster B&B yesterday and was very disappointed to find out that the owner is no longer interested in having weddings on her property. My fiance and I were so excited to check it out, but no luck. I love this blog and if anyone finds another great barn idea other than the previous posts, please share! Thanks!

  36. I love your blog! I am hoping to get married in a field then move to a beautiful romantic/rustic barn. But I'm having trouble finding ones that could fit about 200-300 in the Roseburg, Or area... or within 30-40 mins.

  39. Also, I found a new barn venue! If you're willing to drive the 2 hours north from Portland, look up Red Barn Studios in Chehalis, WA. It's a fabulous venue with a large barn! If anyone goes to visit it, let me know what you thought!

  40. And another barn wedding venue is Brasada Ranch in Bend, Oregon.

  44. Hello ladies! I was wondering if anyone knew of barns in the Eugene/Springfield area that rent out for weddings/receptions? Some of these are fantastic barns, but they're a little far away for me because our wedding will be in Cottage Grove (~30 minutes south of Eugene) at our church. I would go south of Cottage Grove too, just no longer than 30 minutes. Thank you and best wishes for everyone!

  51. My finace are born and raised country. We live in Eastern Or and cannot find any venues where we could get married in a field/meadow and then have a barn reception. We do not want a redneck wedding we want a rustic country wedding that is still beautiful and classy. Being that we are in farm country we're shocked that all of the barn venues are on the west side of the state.....Does anybody out there know of anything in the Pendleton/LaGrande area? We are thinking next August for a date.

  53. Great news for all of you asking me questions about the Newberg barn. I was looking for somewhere to buy my Christmas tree and found that Sunny Day Tree Farm in Sherwood does weddings in their brand new barn! It seats 75 indoor and 75 outdoor. If you're interested, go to http://www.sunnydayoregonweddings.com. The inside of the barn does not appear to be vintage though, since it was just built. So if that's the look you want on the inside, this will likely not be what you're looking for.

  58. Great photographs. From the perspective of someone who is both an English teacher and a wedding photographer, however, you should not only give credit to the site from which you took the photos, a.k.a. Martha Stewart or Weddingbee, but also to the photographer who took the photographs. You may be in risky waters with copyright if you fail to do so, plus it's good for the photographer to have as many backlinks to his/her website as possible. If no photographer is listed, then a more specific link to the page on which the photograph comes from is the least you can do.

  60. My fiance and I are having our wedding at Scappoose Creek Inn, this place is fantastic! Not only affordable in comparison to other venue's, but a beautiful old dairy farm that's been restored and converted into an event hall and B&B, with chickens, a small waterfall and koy fish pond as well as alpacas in the field next to where we'll be holding our ceremony, it's the perfect spot for us. Thought I'd share as they have lots of Sunday's open(booked up on saturdays late July through Sept) and also have a great weekday rate as well as small wedding package. The ladies are helpful and nice and we are so excited to have our wedding and reception here this August.
You can find them online at www.Scappoosecreekinn.com
We live in Tigard, and the venue is about 30 minutes from us if we take cornelius pass road to hwy 30.

another option we looked into but couldn't afford was the Mcmennamins cornelius pass roadhouse, they have a barn that's very beautiful and rustic. More spendy, however they cater their own events.

  65. Hello! My name is Kristine hobbs and I too am looking for a barn style wedding. I have found the Octagonal Barn at Cornelius Pass is pretty inexpensive, because you are not paying for the venue, only the food and beverage minimum and the venue fee is waived. Although I love that place, I am still keeping my options open for even more of that rustic feel. I wanted to thank you for your ideas you have shown here in your blogs, and would love to hear any feedback on other venues! Your blog is great and has given me quite a few ideas! Thank you so much.. but if there is any more I would again love to hear about them. skshobbs@gmail.com
