Oktoberfest

I am taking some time away today from my typical posts on weddings and related items, to let you know of a great local event going on in Oregon this weekend. Oktoberfest is a term known by many, and relates to a festival where you're bound to find every sort of German food, wine, and beer available in addition to great music and crafts. Here in Oregon, the Mt. Angel Oktoberfest is the oldest and best-loved Oktoberfest since 1966, located in Mt. Angel (right next to my hometown of Silverton) which was settled by the Germans in 1800.

When you arrive it looks as if you were transported to Germany or at least a German movie set, but here in Mt. Angel that's how things have always been. Locals (and even some who aren't) dress up in traditional garb to sing, dance, and serve up the good stuff, all with the sweet demeanor and hospitality the area I grew up in is known for. This is a FREE event, and was named the Best Annual Event 2009 by the Statesman Journal Newspaper, so if you're not doing something tonight, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, please attend! I must note that the money raised goes to a variety of charities and funds the annual 4th of July Fireworks. Oh and stop in for a German Restaurant Meal at the Glockenspiel, and if you happen to get Kristin for your waitress, tip her well (she's my assistant on many weddings)!

To get here, simply take I-5 and coming from Portland, take the Hubbard/Canby exit which will take you straight down the highway, through Hubbard, Woodburn, and then you'll take a Left at Young Street (right after Arctic Circle) where signs point toward Silverton & Mt. Angel. Then it's straight down to Mt. Angel, and the hardest part is finding a spot to park. A large lot is located at the end of town closest to Silverton on your left. Coming from the South, take the Woodburn exit off of I-5 and go straight (past Wellspring where I work) until you hit a very large intersection at the corner near Dollar Tree and Safeway and take a Right. That puts you on the same highway as the above directions. Then again take a left at Young Street and follow the signs toward Silverton/Mt. Angel.

If you do end up coming down tonight, I will be working from 5-10pm selling headrings for my best friend (those great floral headrings that kids and women often wear) in the vendor area so stop on by and say hello or even buy one. If you have any questions about the event prior to 4:30pm, email me at triedandtrueweddings@gmail.com and I'd be happy to help you out.

Hopefully I'll see you there!
